App Review: iXP on the Nokia N97
iXP is an application launcher for the N97 provided by MMMOOO. It brings the familiar Windows XP desktop to the N97!
Features
iXP’s version of a Windows XP desktop comes with a familiar theme and the equally familiar start menu. Programs are logically divided into groups (such as multimedia, organizer and so on) on the start menu, and there are shortcuts for the most common functions both on the desktop and on the start menu.
How is the experience?
Hilarious at first! At least if you’re somewhat of a tech geek like me. I tricked a friend into believing that I was showing the new mobile version of Windows… From these words, you probably realize that the launcher really has the look and feel of Windows XP. It doesn’t however offer anything more than that. No extra functionality and no settings. as we can imagine. I would like to move the icons around, change which icons are visible, their names and so on. Maybe in a future version?
An elegant feature though is that you can close and put iXP on stand-by by using the start menu the same way you would do on a PC running the real Windows XP. Useful? Hardly, but a nice touch anyway!
Summary
Pros
- Cheap, 4,99$
- Real XP look and feel
Cons
- No right-click on desktop!
- No extras
Overall, an incredibly well made launcher with a true Windows XP look and feel. While it doesn’t anything more than that, it’s a must have if you miss the Windows desktop and start menu on your N97! To find out more and to download visit MMMOOO.
