MyPhone is an application launcher for the N97 provided by MMMOOO. It introduces the iPhone UI on your N97! Complete with the slider to unlock, the main screen and even the iPhone dialling application. In our previous review of MyPhone version 2.2, I found MyPhone to be a competent and useful application, while still not being an essential purchase if you’re not a die-hard iPhone fan. Will things be different with the new version? Features

The main feature is of course still to make your N97 look and feel like an iPhone! MyPhone version 2.3 features some look and feel improvements – mainly a slightly faster UI – and the possibility to autostart MyPhone when the phone starts. There is also a new setting to control whether the slide to unlock feature is active or not.

As before, MyPhone also adds a few extras to your phone; an RSS reader, a weather application and an iPhone like SMS application that can thread messages (group them by sender). Apart from the extras, the application still works as a launcher, and so the standard applications are used for calendar, contacts and so on.

So – are you convinced this time?

The new ability to autostart when the phone starts actually makes quite a difference. Sure, it takes a while for it to load and you get to see the standard home screen for a few seconds before the iPhone UI pops up… But still, a launcher that starts with the OS and doesn’t have to be started manually feels more like a genuine part of the phone. It might only be a psychological difference, but in reality it matters. The speed improvements are nice but scrolling is still a bit suspect on the main screens.
