Today is a free entertainment app for the N97 and other S60v5 devices developed by Offscreen. It displays information about current holdidays over the world, historic events and also about births and deaths that have occurred at the current date in the past.

Features

The data used is retrieved from Wikipedia. Although today’s date is naturally the default selection, it’s also possible to select any other date and browse information for that date instead. The application features full touch support with kinetic scrolling.

Will it give me a fresh perspective each day?

That depends… The touch interface is slick and it’s a nice experience to scroll through beautifully layouted pages of historic events, births and deaths. So on the surface all is good. However, an app like this really fails or succeeds with the quality of the included content, and although I love the idea of this app the content just isn’t interesting enough to keep me hooked. There’s also a heavy leaning on US content, so maybe a person living in the US will enjoy the content more, but I have my doubts. Anyway, a bigger selection of local content is probably a must for the app to be generally enjoyable in the long run.
