Widgen is a application for the N97 and S60v5 platform that can generate widgets. It promises home screen support and the ability to create a new widget in seconds. Does it deliver?

Features

The only option currently available is to create a web link shortcut. More options will become available in time, the application is still listed as beta. The widgets are created from templates and the templates are stored on a server. This means new templates can be added without any changes to the program.

After you have entered the required data such as URL for the web link, the program also calls the  server to create the widget. Once the widget is finished, it can be downloaded from the server to your phone. The whole process is quite fast, so creating a widget in a matter of seconds is definitely possible.

What can it do for me?

Nothing really, you can just as well create a web link shortcut in one of the shortcut widgets on the home screen and have better functionality. Still, as a technology for creating new programs, this is a quite fascinating concept with lots of promise for the future. To be really useful though, it must add more templates and more functionality in general.

Also, I wonder where home screen support went? The created widgets are not available as selections on the home screen. Maybe in a future version?
