For those who got the Nokia N97 at its early stages and didn’t like what they saw in terms of software, you can stop worrying as the Nokia E7 is different.

Nokia has worked hard ensuring that both the hardware and software experiences be changed, and even though Symbian is a dying platform in the Finnish company’s eyes, there is a lot of support, and software updates will be coming regularly – or so we hope.

There is no doubt that the design is an absolute winner. The modern, sophisticated lines, the clever keyboard and comfortable buttons that appear out of the tilt-out platform are very much inviting to any customer. The only problem are the weight and size, but that’s subjective.

The screen measures a nice 4″ in diagonal length, and it employs AMOLED technology, ensuring vivid colours and deep contrasts, just like we like it.

The Nokia E7 is obviously not a brand new smartphone, but we hope that this article was informative enough for you to have an idea or two about it.

It supports downloading multiple torrents at the same time, and it is also capable of both downloading and uploading the files and you can even save the status of your unfinished torrents, and later it can be resumed after restarting the application. You can also check the detailes status of each file inside a torrent along with several other statistics and properties during download.Torrents can be saved from the browser, and selecting the files that are downloaded from multi file torrents is also supported.

My experiance of using SymTorrent was Fabulous and I recommend you to use it, if you Download files using Torrents. This application is very Safe, it will not cause any Damage to your phone but I recommed you to Install an Anti-Virus on your Phone, because sometimes Torrent files are Virus infected and Virus can cause a Problem to phone. Also I din’t Find any Crashing of Application.

A while back I spoke of a few different instant messaging applications for your Nokia N97. Today I’m going to tell you about an update to Nimbuzz, one of the best out there Nimbuzz is a free app for S60 that allows you to call, text and send instant messages to your friends. It does this through instant messaging servers, you’ve probably got an account on one even if you don’t know it. For example; Facebook, Twitter, MSN, Google Talk (comes with Gmail)… the list goes on… forever

But yeah, you now know what Nimbuzz is if you didn’t already and now for the improvements;

Completely redesigned call screen (Display picture of contact and more information about the call)

The option to mute the microphone during calls.

DTMF codes come to touchscreen phones

Removal of display pictures in the chat rooms

Support for limited access points (can I finally use Nimbuzz on T-Mobile Internet???)

So what do you think? Version 2.3 sure does look tasty doesn’t it? Why don’t you get yourself on down to http://www.nimbuzz.com/en/mobile/pc/download and download this newest version of Nimbuzz and let me know what you think in the comments section below.

Again, peace out and enjoy the freeware

Aden

Okay, I lied a little… It’s not free money rather free money vouchers. Basically you need to sign up to a website that, in collaboration with Nokia, collect anonymous information about how your phone is used. This is done through installing an application on your phone that auto-runs at startup and is completely silent when running.

I must mention one thing though, this is only available to people in Russia, Spain or the UK. If you don’t reside in one of these places then unfortunately you’ll have to find other ways to make money.

The application, named 360Meter, collects information automatically and uploads it over the internet to Nielsen who uses the data to help Nokia create improvements for their phones and systems. Data collected is such information as how long you listen to music to or how many text messages you send, Nokia then use this info to develop battery saving methods that can help people in everyday life.

You can upload the information over a data connection or through WLAN, either is acceptable. You can upload the data manually when you feel like it or let it do its business automatically.

All you have to do is register at https://mobilepanel2.nielsen.com/nenroll/home.do?type=load&lang=en and follow the instructions on how to get started. It’s simple! I’ve done it for a couple of months now and have already received a £10 money voucher to spend in a range of highstreet stores.

You earn £50 worth of vouchers over a year if you keep uploading the data to Nielsen but if you prefer you could stop after you receive your first as you are under no obligation to keep doing it at any time.

Give it a go, I’m sure you’ll love it Let me know what you think by dropping me a comment.

Right, I haven’t posted in a while due to being completely overloaded with work and stuff but now I’m back

Just recently Nokia Beta Labs have released another great application, Nokia Bots. This is a selection of homescreen widgets for your shiny N97 that basically learn what you want to do based on your routines. Currently there are only 4 bots but I guess more will be added soon, below is a run down of each bot and what it does;

Profile Bot

Do you ever forget to silence the phone for meetings? Or when the meeting ends, forget to switch back to normal profile, and miss calls? Profile Bot is here to help. Profile changes are suggested on your homescreen: confirm automated profile changes for each meeting with a single click, or let them be fully automated for you.

Alarm Bot

Setting up a wake-up alarm and silent profile for night time has never been easier! Alarm Bot learns at what time you use to wake up, and suggests alarms and profile changes on your homescreen nightly. Create a new alarm and automate night profile with a single click, and never again forget set the phone to silent profile in the morning.

Shortcut Bot

With new apps from the Ovi store and other sources that make the phone more useful and fun you have so many that you want at the touch of a button. With the help of Shortcut Bot, you get quick access to your most frequently used apps straight from your homescreen without configuration hassles: your preferences are learned in the background, and shortcuts automatically updated. This one is my current favourite bot.

Battery Bot

Battery Bot observes your battery status. In case the battery is likely to drain while you sleep, it reminds you in advance to connect the charger. Otherwise you might wake up too early because of “battery low” alerts, or too late if it drains before wake-up alarm.

So there you have it, Artificial intelligence for your phone. Check that out Apple ;p It’s available for the N97 and N97 mini only due to the homescreen widgets so head over to https://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-bots and download it NOW and tell us what you think in the comments

Also, Check out Nokia Bots on YouTube

Until next time, Peace.

With the advent of Symbian^3, it makes one wonder about the possibility of the new OS on our beloved N97′s. Symbian^3 promises to improve the UI by:

Symbian^3

An improved user experience

There are a range of user experience improvements in Symbian^3, incremental enhancements that make Symbian-based devices easier and more enjoyable to use.

Single tap interaction model – no more “tap to select, tap again to action”. Consistent roll-out of a “single tap” paradigm throughout the touch UI removes the need for double tapping anywhere in the user interface, delivering a more immediate and direct user experience. The implementation includes framework changes that allow 3rd party applications to benefit easily.

Multi-touch gesture support (for things like drag, flick and pinch-to-zoom) comes to many applications, including the Homescreen, Photos and the video player. Any application can integrate support for gestures by taking advantage of the framework and the set of gestures recognised can be customised and extended by device creators.

Better memory management, achieved through writeable data paging, leaves more free RAM for applications.

A faster UI – the Symbian^3 user interface uses the new graphics architecture to great effect to ensure that devices feel snappy and responsive.

The Homescreen Evolves

The Homescreen, starting point for all user interaction, evolves in Symbian^3. Find that you can’t squeeze all the widgets you need onto one page, or want separate pages for personal and work widgets? No problem, the Homescreen now supports multiple pages of widgets and a simple flick gesture to move between them. The number of Homescreen pages is limited only by available memory.

Want to show multiple email accounts or weather forecasts for more than one city? No problem, in Symbian^3 the Homescreen gains support for multiple instances of a native widget.

The Homescreen also gains an improved Widget Manager configuration interface that provides a rich UI for downloading new Homescreen widgets. Widgets gain the ability to extend their UI, for example when the user selects a widget. The extended UI can be any size and is displayed on top of other widgets as a floating element.

As in previous releases widgets can be created in either web runtime (using HTML, Javascript etc) or natively using Qt, C++ or standard C. Symbian^3 sees the addition of support for Adobe FlashLite widgets (so long as a FlashLite player is available in your device).

See the Symbian^3 Homescreen architecture and the Homescreen package backlog for further information.

More entertaining – HD video, smart remote controls, interactive radio, podcasts

There’s a lot happening in Symbian^3 in the multimedia space:

HDMI Output: The latest phones can do almost everything your set-top box or PC can – only you can fit it in your pocket! But sometimes that pocket-sized screen just isn’t big enough – for example, showing your holiday photos and videos to family and friends, or watching a movie at home. Wouldn’t it be great if that pocket-sized screen could grow when needed – so it was big when you wanted it to be? With HDMI Output, this is easy – just plug your phone into your TV and see your movies and photos on a screen measuring feet, not just inches! And movies arent the end of the story – just think about the possibilities of big screen gaming.

Symbian^3 brings support for HDMI v1.3a and above plus HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). The Photos, Music Player and Video Player applications have been updated to output to HDMI when a connector is attached. See feature 876 for more details.

Full remote control for your music player: See track and artist names and browse your music collection direct from the screen on your Bluetooth headset or remote control. Change playlist without having to take your device out of your pocket. The technology behind this is v1.4 of the Bluetooth Audio/Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP v1.4) – a headset or remote with matching Bluetooth support will be required. Symbian^3 also brings stack-level support for a Symbian device acting in the “remote control” role to browse the media on any other player that supports Bluetooth AVRCP v1.4.

For further details see the Bluetooth Services package and feature 879.

Music store integration in the Radio app – making radio interactive. Ever heard a great song on the radio and wanted to know what it was or buy it then and there? The new “Buy now” button in the Radio app solves this problem by using RT+ RDS metadata to link through to the user’s chosen music store, providing them with relevant info on the current song and artist and letting them make an immediate purchase if they wish to. Music store plug-ins can be supplied by a device creator or carrier or downloaded and installed by the user themselves.

For further information see the Radio package and feature 880.

Podcast management: The Podcasts app, new in Symbian^3, allows you to manage podcast subscriptions and automatically download new shows to a predefined schedule, integrating with the music and video players for playback. With the Podcasts app in place you’ll always have something new to listen to.

Next generation graphics

A new 2D and 3D graphics architecture paves the way for a faster and more engaging user interface by enabling hardware acceleration of all graphics operations. Applications such as Photos take full advantage to enhance their look and feel, integrating effects such as fades and transitions between their various screens. Semi-transparent UI elements are supported, great for example when overlaying controls or notifications onto video during playback. Combined with industry-standard OpenGL ES, the new architecture also provides a great platform for high performance games – all without slowing the phone down. And all these features can scale to the capabilities of the hardware, allowing everything from simpler, cheaper phones to feature-rich, high-end devices.

See feature 176 and the Graphics package for further information.

Better data networking

One-click connectivity greatly simplifies the process of connecting to the Internet, doing the right thing without interrupting the user. It delivers a consistent and simple experience across all network-aware applications, streamlining the UI to remove all unnecessary prompts and dialogs. New global settings allow the user to configure platform-wide behaviour, for example ensuring the device automatically switches from cellular to WLAN when a free WLAN network is available. See the One Click Connectivity page and feature 565 for more details.

Smart network management: Under the covers Symbian^3 delivers a new core data networking architecture (known variously as “Three Plane Comms” or “FreeWay”). An application is able to indicate that it has particular service requirements such as high bandwidth (eg for speedy video upload) or jitter control (eg for smooth streaming of internet radio). The system seamlessly balances each individual application’s needs to deliver the best possible overall user experience.

Core improvements: Symbian^3′s new networking architecture and related optimisations also deliver throughput and jitter improvements to all data-enabled applications. This future-proofs the platform ready for the high bandwidth 4G networks that will roll out over the next few years. This industry-leading architecture provides a great basis for VoIP, audio and video streaming and efficient use of high bandwidth networks of all kinds.

So, with all these improvements to the Symbian OS, it does spark curiosity amongst S60 users. I know all the features are not possible, but some of the features might be implemented and it wouldn’t hurt the N97 if they were implemented. Seeing how the new Symbian’s interface is intertwined with an additional graphics chip, it would be difficult to implement all these features on the N97. Obviously, features like HD playback, multi-tap gestures, HDMI output and hardware improvements like 4G enablement would be nearly impossible or impossible to implement. But, features like better RAM management, a new and improved homescreen(with limited graphics acceleration of course) and the single-tap implementation in the UI would improve the usability of the N97.

With that being said, it should be noted that this is nothing but food for thought. Even if the N97 is able to handle at least some of the features of the Symbian^3, it would not be a wise business decision for Nokia to release it on the N97. It is also hard to carry this on the N97 because the drivers for the N97 would have to be updated to work on the new OS. However, with a strong strong hacking community, it won’t be a surprise to see a port of the new OS on our beloved phones. Hackers, are you ready for the challenge?

So, what do you guys think? Will it be possible to introduce the Symbian^3? Would you like to see it on your N97?

Peace,

Salman

First up is a theme I have JUST started to use. I found it yesterday and I think it’s GREAT! It’s created by a theme designer who goes by the name of Rugge. This theme is based on the newly released video about the upcoming Symbian^3 and looks absolutely brilliant. This is the second theme that I have tried that attempts to look like the new version of Symbian due to be released later this year, it is definitely the better one of the two and I am yet to find another.

The whole colour scheme is a mixture of blue, green, black and white which at first do sound a tad strange but I assure you that it works really really well. The wallpaper is a close up image of a few shards of grass that the designer took himself which shows how talented this guy is.

I also find that this theme makes my phone run a lot faster, at least it seems so. I don’t really know, if you try it out let me know what you think of performance.

So if you’re bored of your current theme or just fancy a change, or you really like the look of the new and upcoming version of symbian then get this theme and check it out. You’ll love it, or at least I do!

You can download it from http://www.4shared.com/file/234525293/d64fa71a/MySymbian3_Rugge.html

Web made easy, even on your phone

Opera keeps it simple with a sleekly designed user interface, regardless of the phone you are using, and with the same great feature set, such as Speed Dial, tabs, and the password manager.

Never leave your personal information behind

Opera Link lets you synchronize your bookmarks, notes and Speed Dial between your computer and your mobile phone. Make your information available wherever you are – at work, at home or on the road. Get the best Internet experience on your phone

So, there you have it. You can download Opera Mobile or Opera Mini by visiting http://www.opera.com/mobile or through your N97 by directing it to http://m.opera.com

So is this the best browser available for the N97? (It still doesn’t support Flash). Drop your thoughts in about it. We will be having a comparison of the browser with the rest of the pack, so stay tuned!

If the Nokia N97 was a disappointment, the N97 Mini came around to wipe the tears off Nokia execs and fans alike. It eluded the hindrances that the N97 initially brought and has proven to be a smash amongst the Nokia faithful. As a reward, Nokia would like to rewards us with (cue in the drum-rolls): Nokia N97 Mini Gold Edition! It will be plated with 18k gold and will retail for $847. The gold edition will be a carbon copy of its toned down and sober twin (N97 mini): 5MP with Carl Zeiss and dual LED’s, 3.2″ resistive screen, sliding keyboard, GPS, WiFi, etc. The Nokia N97 Mini Gold Edition will be releasing in the second quarter across four continents: Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Africa. To all those blingbees and rappers in North America, it won’t be available here!

Nokia N97 Gold Edition

The gold edition will, besides being plated with 18k gold, include fashion applications (Elle, etc), a gold edition theme, and as the picture indicates: some premium headphones. But, according to one humble blogger, a gold-colored paint job by a professional would be as blinged up! (All painting would be done out of warranty of course ) We will keep you updated once it is released and post our thoughts upon release. If I am not mistaken, this is the first time the an N-series phone is being given the Midas touch.
So, the question remains: if you haven’t bought an N97 handset, would you opt for the Gold Edition? Or is the N97/N97 Mini enough for your liking? Would the gold make you ‘stand-out’ from the rest?

Peace,

Salman

Good things are a happening… Yes, music downloads that are free of DRM. The Nokia Music Store is becoming Ovi Music and along with this change they are completely removing DRM from their songs. Woo Woo!

If you don’t know what DRM is then I’ll fill you in Digital Rights Management basically stops people from sharing music illegally between friends and over the internet, Great I hear you say? No, It also means that we cannot even play the tracks that we own with some other software/devices. How bad is that?

BUT, like I said… Nokia are completely removing DRM from what is soon to be Ovi Music which is great! Now all the tracks you purchase from Nokia can be played through any media player on your pc/mac and can be transferred to many of your devices.

Also, a little inside tip here… There are loads of free credit codes knocking about on the net In fact, here are a few that you can try out (£4 each);

VLBV-MPBX-XDNQ-F79V
8S5P-WX57-R83H-7JXY
DHBQ-2LBM-96Q8-PD9W

Let me know if they work by leaving a comment (I haven’t tested these but have used different ones in the past and they do work!)

All that’s left to say is… Happy listening.
