Nokia N97/N97mini, a masterpiece of a device. Yes it has shortcomings, but you still love that phone of yours. But recently while tinkering you bricked the N97/N97mini and now can’t get it past the welcome screen… Well my friend ‘alsiladka‘ has the solution to it.

Nokia N97 has a function that allows you to see the map according to your direction, like a compass. You turn on the Nokia Maps and by calibrating the compass you are able to see the map according to your direction just by rotating the Nokia phone. In fact, we rotate to get the idea of what it does while we are moving, inside a car or walking.

Overall it makes your life easier, and becomes a very good GPS. But there’s a few problem, a cool problem, we can say, because you need to shake the Nokia N97 to get the compass calibrated. As it is an electronic compass it needs to be shaked so that it can works properly.

As Nokia indicates, to get the Compass Calibrated you need to:

1. Ensure that the device sensors are on. Select Menu, go to Settings, click  Phone, then Sensor settings and turn Sensors > On.
2. Go to Maps,
3. “Rotate the device around all axes in a continuous movement until the calibration indicator changes its colour to green”. This is what Nokia says and also what comes on the Nokia N97 manual: you must rotate  in an “8″ pattern, or like an “infinitum” pattern.

The review starts off with an introduction of the Nokia N97 saying that releases don’t get bigger than this and it is one of the most fully-loaded smarthphones till date.

They say the Nokia N97 does not put any new features but tries to fit all major features into one device. The N97 is slimmer than the N96 but hefty by modern standards. It is laso bigger than the XPERIA X1 but slimmer. The handset looks very good, it would have been better off if it had metal elements too. The screen resolution should have been bigger. The Nokia N97 uses a resistive screen instead of a capacitive one like the Apple iPhone. Nokia N97 is the flagship phone of Nokia and what Nokia claim to be a “Mobile Computer“. The phone has very nice specifications. Starting off with the box contents:

They say that the device is quite heavy and feels like a chubbier 5800 XpressMusic. It looks quite good especially in White. The phone like other NSeries phones lack the Metal accents of the classy ESeries. The screen is brilliant especially under sunlight. It attracts fingerprints but the visibility is not much affected. The screen is also more sensitive and responsive than the one on the 5800. The call and end keys are touch sensitive and eay to use, giving vibrations with each press.

The Nokia N97 in the video has a kickass Start-Up screen if you notice carefully. Instead on the handshake, you can see a fist-fist punch. There are lights surrounding the Nokia N97 which highlights the Nokia N97 and also shows the Nokia N97 features.

The Nokia N97 is without doubt the Superstar of the Mobile World. It has been making appearances in a lot of music videos and innovative ads.  You can view the vidoes in which the Nokia N97 prevously appeared in here.

The Nokia N97 appeared in the Music Video called The Girl and The Robot by Roykssop and now it makes it’s appearence in the new Music Video called I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas. The handset makes it’s appearance in the beginning of the video itself.

I received a pre-release Nokia N97 from Nokia SA yesterday to take a look at and test for a couple weeks. The version I received is not the same version that will be shipped but it is probably pretty close. In a sense this is a release candidate so there is still a chance the software may be a little buggy and the phone isn’t really supported by 3rd party providers. I’ve noticed a couple quirks which will probably be resolved by the time the phones ship (I understand that the devices will start shipping internationally in a matter of weeks although Nokia can’t confirm any details at this point).
