Firmware Update: 2.0 is here

This item was filled under [ exclusive, news, Releases ]

Long has this update been awaited. It is now official, the new Nokia 2.0 firmware is now available via NSU or, for those of you that have a nearby wirelless connection, OTA. I know that we have all been waiting for kinetic scrolling, and finally: it’s here, not only in contacts and pictures, but anywhere on the phone where scrolling is availabale. I can say that kinetic scrolling on the new Nokia N97 2.0 firmware could still use some improvements, but for that we would have to wait for another uppdate. Also, more memory is available, now allowing up to +/- 40 MB of free RAM. Even with the new Facebook application, that also received an upgrade, we had 41 MB of RAM free.

Along with this, a new version of OVI Maps is available, with 3-D maps mode, a very cool feature you will enjoy. Kinetic scrolling is available here too, but it depends on your internet and satellite connection on how laggy it is. The browser seems to work well, although it seems to freeze at some points, and apparently for no reason. Also a new feature is on the keyboard driver, by long pressing keys, you get its associated function, or number, and this is very good.

I saw a couple of new certificates that are required to install on some apps and widgets, which is sort of annoying.

Here is a list of only a few of features that V2.0 brings:

- Kinetic scrolling in all lists on the phone

-  More efficient use of RAM memory, apps use less RAM for proccessing

- New OVI Maps comes included with 3-D maps, kinetic scrolling, but a bit more time to connect to satellites

-  Browser moves faster with kinetic scrolling and also flash is now supported (It helps on Youtube)

-  Keyboard now has long press action, it shows the symbol or number assigned

-  Music Player albums are now shown a bit bigger, which is a plus\

- Stereo speaker volume has been improved

-  Widgets can now remain in offline mode

-  Touchscreen is more responsive

I hope you all enjoy this key update and give us feedback on how it performs.

With regards to your N97 firmware 2.0 update, I am sad to see that in the music player on the home screen, when we open it, and a song is playing, unlike previously, when we hit the back button, it just closes, instead of going back into that particular play list like before. Very frustrating !!!!
    Maybe needs a bug update…
Pls try and let us know your comments…
