Game Review: Checkers
Checkers is a strategy freeware game for the N97 and other S60v5 devices provided by moubail.com.
Features
Checkers is an implementation of the classic board game, also known as Draughts. You play against the phone by moving your pieces diagonally, and pieces can also jump over the opponents pieces, thus taking them out of the game. You win when all the opponent’s pieces are gone or when the opponent can no longer move.
Will it keep me in check?
If you’re into strategy games, yes! While in no way an action paced game, strategy and concentration is rewarded and you really have to work on it to beat the phone. If you haven’t played Checkers before, it can probably be described as a light version of Chess. Game AI is very good, contributing to a nice overall gameplay.
Graphics are nice, and the touch interface is ok but maybe a bit on the small side if you (like me) play without the stylus. The board could have taken up a bigger part of the display, as you can see in the screen shots.
The game supports both landscape and portrait mode, which is a plus in my book.
