Game Review: Quick Block
Quick Block is a free game for the N97 and other S60v5 devices provided by Binary Core.
Features
Quick Block features simple and intuitive touch gameplay. You control the orange block on the screen and must keep away from the green blocks hunting you. In the beginning there is only one green block, but as the game progresses, more and more green blocks will fill the screen, making it increasingly harder to stay clear of danger. The score consists of how long you’re able to stay alive, and the game keeps track of your high scores.
Will the green blocks haunt me?
Yes! It’s definitely an addictive challenge to steer around the screen hunted by those evil green blocks! And once you fail, you will be frustrated enough to immediately try beating your previous high score. More levels and a save feature between them would have been nice though!
There are some drawbacks that should be mentioned. The graphics don’t always keep up with the action and are lagging from time to time. Not sure if that’s due to game programming or the N97 hardware. It never gets unplayable though, so for a freeware game I think it’s something you can live with. The simple – yet for the most part brilliant – user interface also has an issue with visibility. Since you move your finger rapidly across the screen all the time, there are moments when your finger gets in the way of sight, thus making it impossible to get away from the green blocks! Not nice!
Still, it’s an enjoyable game and even though I wish for more levels, maybe it’s a good thing that there are only green enemies and not other colours included as well!
