Nokia N97 may not release on Orange and O2
We have been here at Nokia N97 Blog talking about the Nokia N97 release date, but we have some bad news now, because Nokia N97 may not be coming to the Orange and O2 networks. O2 and Orange said they will not accept the device because Skype comes pre-installed with the device.
The problem faced by companies due to Skype is that the VOIP feature is that could lead to lower revenues from contracts that include lots of voice minutes in favor of ones that offer unlimited Internet usage, which are often much cheaper.
An O2 spokesperson was quoted as saying “We have made no announcement yet on whether will stock this handset, we are currently working with Nokia to understand their Skype service and the business model around it.”
The Nokia N97 is also rumored to be having a 16GB micro-SD in the sales package which makes a totatal of 32Gb.
The Nokia N97 is set to hit most of the markets in April itself. It still hasn’t started shipping and for Orange and O2 customers things may just get worse, but in my opinion this are just negotiation schemes and sooner or later might be solved. It would be incredible if such a device like this Nokia N97 wouldn’t come to UK Markets.

Well, if they don’t stock it…. on my o2 contract, they will lose a customer
Don’t you mean 48gb of storage? Since it has 32gb of internal storage + 16gb card?
pathetic. i rung orange last night, told them i wanted to disconnect cause i wanted the n97, and phones4u offer it for £50 on an orange contract. they proceeded to tell me the n97 has failed its tests and orange dont want to release a phone thats not up to standard, sounds like they spun me a bit of a story but not mentioning this simple issue that doesnt affect performance at all!
so boo to orange, i’m going to ring up now and end my contract if they cant give me a release date as why should i wait around when i can go get the phone still on my preferred network?! they will probably charge me for the phone when it comes out anyway so i will still have to leave! tut
This is a load of s**t. I sooooo want the n97 and will get it even if i have to cancel my orange contract!
