Today, I’d like to mention some of the Software features that the N97 will include. The main feature that calls any user attention are the widgets, which are shortcuts, little apps, or features that the user can display in the homescreen.

For example, you could insert a Facebook (or any other social network) widget that could keep you updated with the latest messages, news, Wall Posts and tagged pictures of you and your friends. An RSS feed of your favorite blogs will keep the user informed whenever something new is posted. A weather widget and links to your favorite applications could also be inserted as on the homescreen.

While we are discussing widgets, let me tell you that Nokia has released a Widget design competition for people to create a homescreen widget for other users to rate. The winner of the contest will get a Nokia N97 before the official release date loaded with their widget. So, if you have a great idea for a N97 widget, submit your design here. Tomorrow I’ll give details on this competition.

The search engine looks great and it’s been said that it has been improved over S60 3rd edition phones, as you can now select the search engines that you want to use.

There are many other applications that you should be familiar with if you own or have owned a Symbian S60 device, such as DIctionary or Photos (or Gallery of not using N-series phones) with Photo editing.

The N97 will come with many software upgrades compared to S60 3rd ed. phones and even the 5800 which is already using the S60 5th ed. We will bring you the latest news about this device which promises to be the next best thing.
