Last week, I was invited from Nokia Mexico to the launch of the N85. It was a great event where journalists had the chance to test this device and learn about the marketing strategy that Nokia Mexico will use to sell this device even with the economical crisis that the world is suffering from.

I had the chance to talk to some Nokia representatives, one of them was Joel Martinez, who is the Devices Manager in Mexico. We discussed several topics, including the N97 release date in Mexico. I was told that it will see the light of day around September, so if you are eagerly waiting for this device in Mexico or Latin America, maybe you could buy it from other store that will sell it before the official Latin American release.

Hace unos días fui invitado por parte de Nokia México a un evento de presentación del último integrante de la serie N, el N85 por fin salió para el público mexicano a un precio de alrededor de MX$6500 y ya está disponible en la tiendas Nokia del país.

En el evento tuve la oportunidad de platicar con algunos representantes de Nokia, incluido Joel Mendoza, quien es el gerente de terminales de México. Conversamos acerca de algunos temas, entre ellos la fecha de salida del N97 en México. Joel me comentó que esta terminal será lanzada en Septiembre. Así que si están esperando con ansias este dispositivo, les recomiendo que lo busquen en otro lado porque tardará bastante en llegar a México.

If you are an avid player that likes to spend some of your free time playing games on your mobile device or a portable console, you should know that the N97 will be enabled to play N-Gage games, as was mentioned on this post, however, N-Gage games are  not the only games that can be played using the S60 v5 platform. There are plenty of posibilities for everyone’s tastes.

Today I found on the Nokia Blog a post that mentions the meeting in NYC that Nokia Users had on January 23rd. They were lucky enough to have a Nokia representative with them, he took a prototype N97 to the meetup and they were able to play with it for a few minutes. You can watch one of the videos below.

As you can see, the slide mechanism works nicely, it looks smooth and with a good build-quality.

The keyboard was also analysed and they mention that it is confortable, has good spacing between keys and feels good. Below is a picture of the keyboard.

Finally, the User Interface is also mentioned, let’s not forget that this device runs on S60 5th edition and has a lot of improvements over 3rd edition.

I was going through some N97 YouTube videos and came across with this one from Mobile Review. It is really personal, and shows many different aspects of this device. Almost feels like having one in your hands.
