Today, I’d like to mention some of the Software features that the N97 will include. The main feature that calls any user attention are the widgets, which are shortcuts, little apps, or features that the user can display in the homescreen.

For example, you could insert a Facebook (or any other social network) widget that could keep you updated with the latest messages, news, Wall Posts and tagged pictures of you and your friends. An RSS feed of your favorite blogs will keep the user informed whenever something new is posted. A weather widget and links to your favorite applications could also be inserted as on the homescreen.

As I mentioned yesterday, I will start discussing the specifications of the new flagship from Nokia which has an official release date for the first quarter of 2009 (some people have been saying that we will see this phone on April or May).

This device comes with a 3.5″ 16:9 touchscreen similar to the one seen on the Nokia 5800, it also comes with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, front-facing camera owing to the 3G connectivity. A 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics takes high-quality pictures as well as DVD-quality video. Some features that are becoming really important nowadays: A-GPS chip and an electronic compass help the phone know its exact location which would help with social networking apps and location-based services.

Up to 48GB of storage: 32GB of internal memory and a MicroSD slot for cards with up to 16GB of storage. This memory capacity will allow end-users to keep lots of music, movies and videos, apps, photos, and everything important to keep their day-to-day activities even without the need of carrying a full-size laptop around. Since this is a multimedia computer, sound is really important and that’s why this phone comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack so you can plug-in your favorite headphones.

Obviously, this handset needs a powerful battery, that’s why it comes with a 1500mAh battery (similar or the same used in the E71 and the E90). Its dimensions are 117 x 55 x 16 mm.

This blog is dedicated to the next Nokia flagship device, the N97 which was presented at Nokia World on December 2nd. This great-looking touchscreen device has the new Symbian 6.4 S60  5th edition which was first seen on the Nokia 5800. It has a QWERTY sliding keyboard and promises to be an iPhone killer and one of the best launches for the next year, as it will be sold by the first half of 2009.

We are really looking forward to reviewing this device, but meanwhile we’ll keep you informed on the latest news about the N97. Maybe this phone will change the way we do our regular activities, so it could become a milestone in the telcom industry. Let’s hope not to get dissapointed by this product and embrace the benefits that it could bring to our lives: e.g.: new ways of communication, find out the location of our friends, get to know new places by using Maps apps, and staying connected with everyone we care about with social networks and media sharing.
