Skype available on the N97
In case you did not notice, from yesterday onwards, you do not need t point your phone’s browser to Skype.com/m to use Skype on your phone. Skype is now officially available for Nokia N97 as an application.
This has been long overdue from Nokia and Skype’s part, many N97 owners had been feeling left out after being led to believe the N97 would of come with Skype integration out of the box. With this development it has been issued. I guess it’s better to be late than sorry!
More information, including a full list of compatible Symbian devices can be found over on the Official Skype blog, where you will also find the option to send a link to your mobile device, and download Skype for Symbian that way.
The download is quite a large file and it does allow you to install to Mass Memory thankfully, saving your valuable Phone Memory resources.
MickyFin of Nokia Users had this update about the application
Ok, what you have to do, is after installation, and, yes, Mass Memory is fine now for installation, simply launch Skype, and sign in as usual, but when it asks you, if you want to load up your Phone Book Contacts from your device, select “NO”. If you select yes, it crashes. I assume its having issues merging your devices phonebook contacts with your Skype contacts. I have also carried out a test call, and its working 100% now on my N97, and over WIFI, Skype to Skype = Free Calls, or to Landlines, very cheap calls.
He even has a video of the application running on the N97. You can catch it here.

Maybe interesting for the german N97 users:
On my phone Skype did not start properly, just asking for permisson to use network connection and exiting after the confirmation…
To fix this issue, set the phone language to english and start Skype, afterwards you can set the language back to german.
