Why the N97 is better than the iPhone 3G
Here are my reasons as to why the N97 beats the iPhone.
1. The N97 has a display resolution of 360*640 compared to the 320*480 resolution of the iPhone 3G. This allows better display of videos, pictures and browsing the web, etc.
2. The N97 has a hardware QWERTY keypad whereas the iPhone only has a on-screen keyboard. The hardware keyboard is bigger, provides a better and faster typing experience.
3. The 3.5mm audio jack is compatible with all headphones but the 3.5mm jack on the iPhone only supports selected headphones.
4. The N97 has 32GB of built-in memory compared to 8/16GB of the iPhone. The memory of the N97 can also be further expanded by using microSD cards, but the iPhone’s memory cannot be expanded.
5. The N97 allows exchange of files and A2DP through Bluetooth, but the iPhone has only headphone support.
6. The N97 is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, sual LED flash and autofocus. The iPhone camera is only 2 megapixel, lacks a flash and autofocus.
7. The Nokia N97 has video recording of 30fps at VGA resolution while the iPhone doesn’t have it at all.
8. The N97 has a secondary front camera for video-conferencing, the iPhone lacks this.
9. The N97 has a removable battery, but the iPhone has a non-removable one. Thus, the battery is easy to be replaced by yourself; but you have to send it to a service centre for the iPhone.
10. The N97 runs on Symbian S60 5th edition which is a more popular OS than Apple’s OS ,and thus, there are plenty of 3rd party applications, etc, available.

Well that is it then! However, as much as I do not like the iPhone, you have picked on things that you know are winning features. There is more to compare and I am sure the iPhone may win some of them. Size and weight spring to mind as does initial cost. I am hard pressed to think of anything else though!
By feature comparison the N97 is as superior to an iPhone as a Casio watch is superior to a Movado.
Number 3, 5 and 7 are NOT right. You can use áll headphones, and you can send files through bluetooth and use ad2p in the near future (See iBluetooth). Video is possible with Videorecorder3g
What about Mac OS X vs Symbian FP5? In the 5800xm, the system is awful. Hope nokia fix that cause you just mention hardware, but what about the software, the easy of usage?
However, you didn’t mention the user interface, the user experience. Many of people who use Apple’s products don’t care about technical stuff, they just want something nice and comfortable for everyday use. Unfortunately for N97 (I’m fan also) that’s a few thing where iPhone definitely wins. Because, the thing is in usability and Apple products were always more usable than Nokia, or ever other product for that matter.
The iPhone 3G has a universal 3.5mm headphone jack. I would have to disagree about the amount of quality 3rd party apps available for the iPhone. The apps are a big reason why I still cary around my iPod touch and use it in conjunction with my s60 phone.
One downside of the iPhone though is that the apps have to be approved by Apple and their restrictions have denied many great applications.
I totally agree with Metal Marky, “you have picked on things that you know are winning features”. It surely have more features than the iPhone, but u gotta remember, when was iPhone released? and when’s N97 gonna be release? those things do matter. If Apple decide to release iPhone 4G, or whatever it’s gonna be called, at the end of the year, don’t think it’s unfair to compare it to N97.
The N97 can run programs in the background. Track your location via GPS, browse the web, upload your latest photos, and listen to music, all at the same time!
Does N97 support editing in MS Word & MS Exel files.
Does N 97 support editing in MS Word & Exel sheets
this phone is amazing, I was thinking of the Iphone.. but feature by feature it fails, and still no FLASH… what were the Iphone lot thinking.
Aside from looks (can’t talk about user interface as I haven’t tried it yet) it beats the Iphone hands down.
Another thing that has been missed out on is that although the iPhones screen is heat sensitive, as opposed to Nokia N97s pressure sensitive screen, there is no way of knowing you have clicked something on the iPhone, whereas the N97 responds by giving out a slight vibration, assuring the user that an option has been chosen or you have pressed/clicked something on the screen.
its stupid to compare the iphone witch is a non bluetooth 2 mp non video call that u can’t control its own to the n97 nd btw the n97 hearing experience is much better than the i phone i think apple made the i phone so all the users spend their money buyin applications while the phone it self sucks and btw if u droped ur i phone once on its face the “heat’ screen will smash so i dnt knw how even ppl dare to do such a compare its like a hyundai vs. ferrari
